As usual I was anxious to see the latest installment in this block buster series. So-despite the stellar cast: Johnny Depp (of course); Keith Richards (briefly); Penelope Cruz; Ian McShane (as Blackbeard); and Geoffrey Rush, this movie is boring.
Depp’s character, Captain Jack Sparrow, has not developed at all in the course of the four POTC movies. It is disappointing as he is such a versatile and talented actor. Penelope Cruz is also underutilized. The problem is the script is just no good. The story is not compelling or even the least bit suspenseful. I won’t even bother summarizing the plot.
I would hope that Disney would have the good sense to let this franchise die gracefully. Unfortunately, it’s too late for that. And they certainly left the ending wide open for more sequels.
